Foula is natural fortress of Old Red sandstone, with cliffs up to 1240 feet (376 m) high, second only in the UK to those of St Kilda. A very scenic place, not very visited despite its natural beauties, because of its isolation. Still inhabited by 20 brave and friendly islanders.
Foula est une île à 22 km à l'ouest de l'île principale (Mainland). Complètement exposée aux tempêtes de l'Atlantique, elle résiste vaillamment du haut de ses falaises de Vieux Grès Rouge , les secondes de GB après celles de l'archipel volcanique de St Kilda. Un lieu spectaculaire, peu visité en raison de son isolement. 20 personnes, sympathiques et hospitalières, vivent encore sur l'île. |
