Ansel Adams is a father for all landscape photographers. His influence is still very perceptible today. Inventor of the "zone system", he has set the principles of modern photography in his work in black and white and also in his trilogy. (The Camera, the Negative, The Print). He was also an engaged photographer, and actively contributed to preservation by his own work and with the Sierra Club. Ansel Adams biography.

Gallen Rowell and Barbara, his wife, died recently in the crash of their plane. He was a kind of heroic figure in the world of lansdscape and mountain photography, ready to take up all the challenges of the great outdoors. He was also, as a photographer, highly conscious of the technical and aesthetical issues of landscape photography. Gallen Rowell's Vision, a collection of articles published in Outdoors Photographer, is one of my favourite books in this field. |
