Nearly fifty stones of gnarled & finely grained gneiss, forming a celtic cross from above, with a central burial chamber. One of the most important and intriguing Neolithic monument in Europe. This monument is surrounded by other lesser circles nearby. Lewis, Hebrides, Scotland. - Les pierres levées de Callanish, cercle et alignements de pierres érigés par des peuples du Néolithique entre - 3000 et -1500. Environ 50 monolithes, pouvant atteindre 5 m hors sol, de gneiss lewisien finement veiné de gris, forment une vaste croix celtique, vu de dessus.L'un des plus importants (et énigmatique !) des monuments néolithiques en Europe, avec Stonehenge (Angleterre).
