15652 - Format: 35mm, velvia film - Scotland - Ecosse: Orkney (Orcades), Mainland: Maes Howe chambered cairn, part of Central Mainland World Heritage Site. Central chamber and side chambers built into the centre of the walls. Dating 2700 BC, this very large mound (30x11 m) has a long (11m) entrance passage and a vast central chamber (4,7 m square) lit by midwinter sun at winter solstice, a powerful symbolic feature shared with the site of Newgrange in Ireland. The chamber has also one of the largest (30) collection of Runes in Europe. - - - Maes Howe: chambre funéraire centrale, avec deux petites chambres (sur 3) dans l'épaisseur des murs. Maes howe est une gigantesque tombe à chambre (30 m diam. 11 m haut.) construite au néolithique vers 2700 av. JC. Un long couloir d'entrée (11m) mène à une vaste chambre centrale (4,7 m carrés) illuminée par le soleil au solstice d'hiver - puissant symbole de résurrection qu'on retrouve à Newgrange en Irlande - La chambre possède une importante collection de 30 inscriptions runiques (époque viking) |
